

SUNDAY 'FOCUS' ACTING COURSE with SHOWCASE
The 'Focus' acting course is designed for beginners and those with some experience.
Meeting Sunday afternoons and led by experienced director and acting coach Jake Lyons, gain an insight into the process of acting, with exercises, scene study and character creation leading to the participation in a Showcase performed to an invited audience.
An opportunity to ignite imagination, discover creativity, boost confidence and meet like-minded people.
Classes, rehearsals and showcase take place at the London Improv Theatre with stage, lighting, cabaret seating and private bar.

Over the five x 2.5 hour Sunday weekly sessions with the sixth Sunday being performance day, the course covers:

Five x 2.5 hour rehearsals 2.00 PM to 4.30 PM on Sundays

A sixth all day Sunday rehearsal and evening Studio Performance to an invited audience.

The showcase is comprised of short scenes and vignettes selected to match participant’s individual casting, usually contemporary and requiring minimal set and costume. The theatre is a small intimate venue - we use new writing, devising, one act plays and cutting edge scripts that offer all members of the cast an equal and real acting challenge. The audience is by invitation of the participants.

Jake Lyons (Director)
Jake is an actor and director, who has worked in both theatre and television.
He studied at Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts, and went on to perform at many renowned venues around the UK. At the Cambridge Shakespeare Festival, Jake took lead roles in the Taming of the Shrew and Much Ado About Nothing. Other theatre credits include Ring Road Tales (The Palace Theatre), Perfect Plastic (The Bridewell Theatre) and Simples of the Moon (The Lyric, Hammersmith). He has also appeared in several television shows, such as EastEnders, Derailed and The Knock.
Jake works as a Director with his own Stark Theatre Company, which specialises in new writing, and is the founder, director and host of LiveWired Comedy Improvisation - a comedy group which performs regularly at venues across London.
Jake is an enthusiastic tutor who likes to unlock students’ confidence, creativity and imagination. His classes lean very much towards exploiting the transferable skills of the actor, and making them relevant to students’ working and social lives. Jake aims to create fun, active, informative courses with planned progressions. The classes are designed to be 99% practical and offer students a clear insight into a wide range of techniques and practices.
